in 2011, Davids founder Eric Buss became curious about the toothpaste ingredients he was putting in his mouth twice a day and began researching them.

He quickly discovered that many of the ingredients were not optimal for health, and somewhat controversial. After searching for better alternatives, and not happy with what was available, the "simple" idea of creating his own toothpaste company was born. This idea turned into a four-year personal obsession for Eric to develop the cleanest ingredient, highest performance, and most sustainable toothpaste available.

Through exhaustive research and much trial and error, Eric was able to formulate a toothpaste that had not existed…. one that not only had clean and safe ingredients but was also high performance. Also, while talking to ingredient suppliers, Eric also found that other toothpaste companies often use imported ingredients in their "Made in USA" toothpaste, which led to his commitment for using premium USA origin ingredients whenever possible to support American jobs.

naturally sourced

Our naturally sourced ingredients are minimally processed or altered after being sourced from nature. An example of this would be our natural mint flavoring. The mint plant is grown on farms, then harvested and natural oils extracted through a steam distillation process. Yes, this requires processing, but the final product is a premium natural mint oil minimally altered from how the oil is found in the mint leaves prior to processing. Another example of a naturally sourced ingredient is calcium carbonate, which is used as a micro abrasive to clean and polish teeth. Our calcium carbonate is primarily made up of natural limestone mined from the earth. Once the limestone is quarried, it is then crushed, screened, separated, milled, and pulverized. Calcium carbonate undergoes an additional process in which the limestone is further purified, so yes, processing is required, but the final product is a limestone material minimally altered from how the material is found in the earth prior to processing.

naturally derived

Other ingredients found in Davids are derived from nature but have gone through more extensive processing to create a higher level of safety or efficacy and have been modified from their original state. An example of this would be xylitol. In order for us to avoid the use of artificial sweeteners like saccharine, we use xylitol which is made from birch trees. The birch tree fibers undergo advanced processing which creates a final product of crystalline birch xylitol which looks like sugar (altered from its original state) but is commonly classified as a natural sweetener. Other ingredients found in Davids that are Naturally Derived include Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda) and Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate (Coconut Derived), and others.

As a truly independent business, we are free to make our own choices and follow our own path without answering to major mega corporations. We are not beholden to stockbrokers and investors, we are only beholden to our customers, our team members, and our own mission.

When you use Davids oral care products, you can be confident you are getting the best. We eliminated the artificial ingredients that are found in most other toothpastes and found safe alternates. The result is a toothpaste that is naturally sweet (not too sweet), naturally flavored, and naturally preserved.

We are sulfate free, teflon (PTFE) free, pfas free, fluoride free, and cruelty free. All of our formulas are also Vegan. You will not find a warning label on Davids products, because they are non-toxic and safe for all ages.

Davids is a science first and performance focused company. Which led us to create our proprietary Hydroxi™ line of products. Hydroxi™ uses nanoXIM nano hydroxyapatite, which is the only nano hydroxyapatite (nHA) in the world that has been specifically reviewed, tested, and approved by the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) in the EU, and it is the gold standard of nHA used in oral care products around the world.

This ingredient is then formulated precisely with our high quality ingredients to create a formula that outperforms our competitors regardless of whether they use nano hydroxyapatite, or fluoride in their products.
